Loxley, Alabama Race Off the Table in July

Although many people have been excited about the opportunity to race with the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series at Deep South Speedway this coming July, several factors have forced the series to a change of plans.

Due to the economic hardship a two-day event at the Loxley, Alabama track would impose on a majority of the regular members of the UDLMCS, Series Promoter Ken Kinney, Jr. has decided to lighten the 2009 schedule by removing this two-day show from the schedule. "It only makes sense at this point for the drivers and the series, factoring in the enormous burden the economic downtown is placing on our drivers and their families, to restructure some of our earlier scheduling decisions."

Another factor in the decision is the promoters that the UDLMCS worked with to arrange to bring the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series to Loxley, are no longer operating the speedway. A dispute over lease payments resulted in the track being closed, and though the track is set to reopen, the former promoters are out of the picture, according to news reports in area newspapers.

Ken Kinney has not ruled out replacing the July event with a venue closer to home for the majority of the regular members of the series.

The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series returns to action on Friday, April 17 at Penton Speedway in LaFayette Al and Saturday the 18th at nearby East Alabama Speedway. In 2008 Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fl. took the Zeigler Racing Engines Fast Qualifier Award with a 15.24 time at East Alabama Speedway's high-banked 3/8-mile oval. A total of 43 cars came to East Alabama Speedway last April to try and earn a spot in the A-Main. Whitener took the early lead and dominated the 24 car starting field to win the 50 lap race.

Mark Whitener holds a slim early season lead in the 2009 Championship chase over last year's Series Champion Johnny Collins and the "Tallahassee Terror" Tyler Ivey.

For fans in Florida who can't make the drive to Alabama to catch the top dirt late model stars in action, all the action can be heard on Internet Radio at www.RealRacinUSA.com
