The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series is very excited to announce a new award for the 2009 racing season designed to reward newcomers to the series. The Pace American Newcomer of the Year Award is added to the existing Pace American Rookie of the Year program already in place.
The requirements for the Newcomer of the Year Award are as follows: 1.) Can only have raced in a maximum of four (4) United Dirt Late Model Feature events (A-Mains). 2.) Has not received a major award in dirt Super Late Models.
"This is very exciting for the series", promoter Ken Kinney, Jr. said on Friday. "It adds a new dimension and gives a number of drivers a chance to earn some well-deserved recognition", he added.
Among the drivers who will in the running for this award as the UDLMCS heads into Ocala Speedway for the Powell Memorial on Friday, June 5th are Darrell Padgett, Phillip Cobb, Dillon Wood, Kevin Durden, Dennis Williams, Bobby Clark and Travis Rhoden.
With at least 8 races left on the 2009 schedule, there could be a real battle for this award, as well as the Rookie of the Year Award. Currently Travis Rhoden leads the Rookie contenders.
The Pace American Newcomer of the Year Award and Pace American Rookie of the Year Award each will earn a $500 bonus to the winner, to be presented at the end of series banquet. Pace, North America’s number one trailer brand, sponsored the Rookie of the Year Award last year also.
There are two big races in June for the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series. Of course the Powell Memorial at Ocala and then the 3RD annual Scott Thompson Memorial at Volusia Speedway Park on June 23rd.
